As Apprenticeship Specialist for Skills for Growth - SME Support, Suzanne McNicholas works with a wide variety of businesses and individuals, helping them to better understand apprenticeships as a whole, and to find the right training and providers to suit every individual's needs.
I am currently employed by Growth Company as an Apprentice Administrator and currently working towards a Business Administration Level 3 Apprenticeship. After graduating from University, I spent 18 months working within hospitality before I decided to change careers and move into administration. I had no prior experience of administration and a limited skill set; therefore, this was the main reason why I chose to do an apprenticeship. After researching, I found business administration apprenticeships advertised on the Growth Company’s website and decided to apply.
I am only in month 3 of my role and since starting my apprenticeship, my IT and organisation skills have already started to improve. At first I thought it would be difficult to learn and work at the same time, however my line manager has been understanding and really supportive in ensuring I have the time I need in order to complete the work for my apprenticeship.
For my apprenticeship, I have been assigned a tutor who is really supportive and is there to help if I have any questions or need any of the work explaining. Doing an apprenticeship has enabled me to learn the necessary skills and gain valuable experience. Also, there is the added benefit of earning whilst learning, which helped to attract me towards an apprenticeship.
